Official Character Chao

Amy chao
Description: Red emote-ball, pink head/limbs, red body, spikes like Amy Rose
How to get: Action Replay/ Gameshark, get one from your friend(s), go to Japan

Knuckles chao
Description: Green emote-ball, red head/limbs/body, dreads & white crescent symbol under neck like Knuckles the Echidna
How to get: Action Replay/ Gameshark, get one from your friend(s), go to Japan (Good luck with visiting Japan)

Tails chao
Description: Green emote-ball, yellow head w/white furry muzzle, yellow body w/white tummy, two tails w/white tips, yellow limbs w/white tips.
How to get: Action Replay/ Gameshark, get one from your friends, or you can get it on Phantasy Star Online!
Directions for getting Tails chao on Phantasy Star Online-
Do "The Fake in Yellow" quest and finish it. Talk to your client but DO NOT GET THE MESETA!!! Instead go back through the pipe by the bank and you should be greeted with 3 Rappies. Walk over to the waterfall and destroy all the boxes by it, If you did everything correct then a chao will rise from behind the waterfall and give you the "TINY CHAO GARDEN KEY." Go back to P2 and look outside of the hunters guide. You should find a GBA machine like in SA2:B. Link up a Gameboy Advance and download the game. Now with your Gameboy Advance still on, Change your game to Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and go to the chao garden, pick up the chao and save. Now you have the Legendary Tails Chao!

Unofficial Character Chao

These unofficial character chao can and one day will die/reincarnate. They are mortal, and can breed.

Sonic chao
Description: Everything is blue on him, with the exeption of a dark olive green tummy/feet/hands/& ears. Blue emote-ball.
How to get: Just give any normal baby chao green chaos drives/animals, evolve him as a neutral chao, then after the evolution, give him green chaos drives/animals throughout the rest of his lifetime.
Formula: N:G:G

Shadow chao
Description: All black, with the exeption of red soles on feet/ring on neck/ears/& on head spikes. Red emote-ball.
How to get: Just give any normal baby green purple chaos drives/animals, evolve him as a dark chao, then after the evolution, give him green chaos drives/animals throughout the rest of his lifetime.
Formula: D:G:G

NiGHTS chao
Description: Huge yellow wings, yellow tummy/feet/emote-ball, purple body/limbs, dark indigo rings on hands and on the jesters.
How to get: Just give any normal baby chao purple chaos drives/animals, evolve him as a neutral chao, then after the evolution, give him purple chaos drives/animals throughout the rest of his lifetime.
Formula: N:F:F
Trivia: This chao is based on the androgynous character NiGHTS from the game NiGHTS into Dreams, which is also developed by SEGA. It's an amazing game, if you haven't played it, that's just sad. That game is in so many "Best Games of All Time" lists.

*Reala chao*
Description: Huge yellow wings (not shown), yellow emote-ball,all black, really dark olive green feet/tummy. Dark purple rings on hands/jesters.
How to get: You get it EXACTLY like a NiGHTS chao. But instead of a normal chao, you need to use a black two-tone chao.
Formula: N:F:F
Trivia: Reala is an androgynous character from the game "NiGHTS into Dreams". Reala is NiGHTS' opposite, yet at the same time, his sibling.
ATTN: I only read this off another site, I'm currently making one as we speak, I'll confirm if it looks like Reala later. Other people are calling the dark, fly, fly (D:F:F) chao a *Reala* chao. Those look a bit too purple for Reala. I wonder what it would look like if you made a red two-toned version of the Reala chao, or a black two-toned *Reala* chao, or red two-toned. I'll find out soon enough! This chao isn't that much of a Reala chao.

Jackle chao
Description: Dark pink emote-ball, two purple ringed "horns" on head, red head/limbs, orange feet/wings/tummy, and purple rings around hand's tips.
How to get: Just give any normal baby chao purple chaos drives/animals, evolve him as a neutral chao, then after the evolution, give him red chaos drives/animals throughout the rest of his lifetime.
Formula: N:F:P
Trivia: Many people tend to call this a "scorpion" chao. I recently noticed a much stronger resemblance to a character from "NiGHTS into Dreams" than a scorpion. I think it was meant to be a Jackle Chao! Can you see the resemblance? (Look at the jesters & color)
